CAME A GENTLE WHISPER
Cora Lee, raised by her grandmother, always felt like an outsider. Leaving Missouri for Arkansas to support her friend Ruby was a natural choice. Despite the loss and emptiness she’d experienced, Ruby’s friendship filled some of those voids.
However, Cora Lee’s trials deepened when her heart is broken as she is apart from Walter, her love, while he is in Europe fighting in World War I. To make matters worse, she learned he had married a woman from France. Heartbroken, she struggles with the prospect of one day facing the man she loved.
“Came A Gentle Whisper” authored by Rebecca A. Cathey is an incredibly well-written story that explores themes of love, loss, and the bond of friends that become family. I thoroughly enjoyed Cora Lee’s character. Despite her hardships, her faith and God’s grace, guided her through. The detailed descriptions of Little Rock, Arkansas, at the turn of the century added to the story’s charm.
This captivating and intriguing tale kept me hooked, eager to uncover the next chapter. It was my first time reading Rebecca A. Cathey’s work, and I was thoroughly impressed by her writing style. I eagerly anticipate reading more of her stories. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and I highly recommend it.
